This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most popular tourism spots in India owing to its splendid beaches. Visitors also come here to admire the massive facades and beautiful interiors of the city's splendid and well preserved churches.

The scale and detail of the Corinthian-style interior of the Tuscan St. Catherine´s Cathedral, the largest church in India that took eighty years to build, is simply overwhelming. Also interesting is a chapel located behind a highly detailed screen that holds the Miraculous Cross, which was previously stood in a Goan village until a vision of Christ appeared on it and is supposed to possess healing properties.

Other note worth sites in Goa include the Arch of the Viceroys, built in 1597 to commemorate Vasco da Gama's arrival in India, the distinctive domed Church of St Cajetan (1651), modeled on St.Peter's in Rome and the tomb of St. Francis Xavier in Old Goa, the renowned 16th century missionary whose remains are enshrined in the Basilica of Bom Jesus.
